I love our open country, 

A land of flies and dust. 

With kookaburras in the trees 

and neighbours we can trust. 

A barby in the backyard, 

Invite the family ’round. 

Have a game of cricket, 

Then all sleep safe and sound. 

Our sport stars are amazing, 

They really do us proud. 

They’ll have a go at anything, 

To the cheering of the crowd. 

But don’t forget disabled sports, 

They can do it too! 

As much a part o Aussie, 

As the good old kangaroo. 

 We have a lot to offer, 

For tourists coming through, 

To spend their hard earned money, 

On the reef and Uluru. 

A croc might come and grab you, 

The snakes will join in too. 

At sundown better cover up, 

Or mozzies will find you. 

Our food is so delicious, 

Nothing can compare, 

To golden pies and minties, 

Pav and twisties if you dare. 

Dame Edna, Mel, and Brahman, 

Paul Hogan and the rest, 

All showed their Aussie pride, 

And proved that we’re the best

‘In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or eat: it was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort.’

It was actually quite the contrary. It was well aired out with dried flowers in the hall that gave it a pleasant spring feeling. There was plenty of furniture for the hobbit, quite comfortable I might add, so that he always had to place to sit. there wa also enough chairs and sofas and what-not for all the hobbit’s friends, and also his friend’s, friends.

There was also a large round table, right in the middle of the room, that had been carved out of a great oak tree, that had fallen down one night during a storm. The hobbit, being a very tidy person, was always cleaning and polishing it, for it was one of his most prized possessions.

The hobbit loved food. He would spend day after day, working for hours on end to bake delisious hot scones and cakes for when visiters came a calling. Seed cakes, carrot cakes, banana cakes, you name it, he could make them.

What is a hero?

We have been asked by our teacher to write about what we thought a hero was.

I believe that a hero dosen’t have to have super powers and wear a skintight suit and mask. Heros are everywhere. but describing them is not so easy.

A traditional hero is Batman, Superman and Spiderman and all those other comic “Heros”. Other heros include those from greek mythology, who most of them shouldn’t even be called heros in the first place because they didn’t actually help anyone.

Though some real heros are reluctant to do their ‘duty’. Harry Potter, or Bilbo Baggins for example, who if they had followed their gut feeling in the first place, wouldn’t even be known or remembered.

But I believe that todays hero are more like firemen, and policeman, and docters and scientists and all those other people, who continue to ‘make the world a better place’ (Quote from Disney’s The Incredibles).

At the moment, we are studying the book, Juggling with Mandarins. In Juggling with Mandarins, the main character has to deal with a lot of problems that we face almost everyday. Phil, the main character, is with a dad that only cares about winning. Every Saturday Soccer game means Phil getting embarrassed because his dad is always yelling at the team and the Ref and he’s not even the coach. He also has problems with the girl next door. They have been friends forever but somehow finds himself thinking of her as more than a friend.
